Eyup Sultan Mosque was the first mosque built by the Ottoman Turks after they defeated Constantinople. It is next to the burial place of Mohammad’s standard bearer so gets it fair share of pilgrims.

We then moved on to Chora Church. Another church that was converted into a mosque by the Ottomans. So the wonderful mosaics and friezes were plastered over. The mosque was turned into a museum in 1948 and restoration work has revealed the hidden art work.

Literally next door to Chora Church is an amazing restaurant.
Asitane specialises in food from the Ottoman Court. They have recreated meals that they believe would have been served to the sultans. It was simply delicious. I said afterwards that it was the best meal I have ever eaten (not counting Mam’s yorkshire puddings of course). Visit the restaurants website to learn more about the food.
