Eid al-Adha is the second Eid festival. This one is celebrated by Muslims worldwide to commemorate the willingness of Abraham to sacrifice his son. For us it meant that Sue had a weeks holiday and in a moment of madness on Friday afternoon we booked flights to Amman, Jordan.

These guys created a great deal of interest on the flight. A group of young Emirati men were off to compete in a falcon competition in Jordan.
The holiday package included two nights in the 5* Intercontinental Hotel in Amman and transfer from the airport to the hotel. The driver, Jaafar, was so friendly and helpful that we asked him to be our driver for the week.
We had deliberately taken an early flight so that we could use the rest of the day and within one hour of dropping us at the hotel Jaafar was back to take us to the Roman ruins at Jerash, about 45 minutes drive north of Amman.
The site at Jerash is huge. We spent about 4 hours walking through, climbing over and gazing up at all manner of Roman ruins from the entrance at the Arch of Hadrian, past the hippodrome where mock chariot races are held daily, across the oval piazza with its magnificent colonnade and through temples and theatres.
