Another early start and again we were rewarded with unobstructed views of The Treasury.

Today the major objective was a steep climb to the High Place of Sacrifice. Once again fabulous scenery but this time the trail was a circular route with many monuments on the way.
Sue most definitely does not like heights but was happy to sit on this ledge and drink tea with Hussain the Bedouin that we met at his stall at the top of the trail.
The sweet tea was made with meramieh (sage). It was delicious. Hussain joined us on the ledge and told us about King Hussain arriving by helicopter 25 years ago to ask the Bedouin to move out of Petra into a new village that he would build for them.
The picture shows Hussain with Nabatean and Roman coins that he had found. Or at least that is what he seemed to be claiming. They may well have simply been some of the home made fakes that are a very popular form of income for many of the locals.
We met Hussain later in the day as he made his way back to the Bedouin camp for lunch
Everyone is supposed to leave Petra at night but the Bedouin clearly still claim ownership of some caves.

The entry fee includes a horse ride over the first kilometre or so of the walk in. We took ours at the end of the day. The photo makes it look like we know what we are doing. In fact we just sat while the horses were led by a guy walking beside us.
