While it’s not exactly the Lake District it did make for some different scenery and a pleasant walk this morning.
Lake Zakher is described as an accidental lake. It appeared about ten years ago apparently as a result of poor water management practices in Al Ain. Excess water from sewerage treatment was dumped in wadis where it pushed up the water table and formed the lake.

The lake is shrinking rapidly as waste water management is improving but at the moment there are fish in the water and the local birds love the place.
Not quite what you would expect to see in the desert around Al Ain.
