After a late morning flight from Palma to Newcastle we were met by Sue and Michael and taken home in time for a late Sunday lunch and a family get together.

Durham

The next day we picked up Ngaire and Emily from Durham station and did the compulsory river and cathedral tour so that they could appreciate why Durham Cathedral is the most beautiful in the world.

The cathedral tower was open so we were able to enjoy the views of the city. Nigel has been coming here for at least 45 years and this was the first time he had climbed the tower.

Whitby and the North Yorkshire Moors

Another warm day in Whitby followed by a trip through Heartbeat country in the North Yorkshire Moors.

The Lake District

A day in the Lake District meant a walk from Patterdale along the shores of Ullswater with David and Cath, successfully avoiding the predicted rain.

Teesdale

The next day saw us visiting Gibson’s Cave on the Bow Lee Beck before walking along the banks of the Tees between Low and High Force – a beautiful section of the Pennine Way.

After a quick two car shuffle courtesy of Mam and Dad taxi service we returned to the Bowlees Visitor Centre lunch. The day was supposed to end with a walk to Cauldron Snout waterfall but a biting north east wind drove us home!

The Lakes and back to Abu Dhabi

As always the two weeks of holiday flashed by too quickly. We ended back in the Lake District where Mam and Dad returned to spend a few days in the caravan and we had arranged for the Etihad chauffeur to collect us from the Belsfield Hotel, Bowness on the shores of Lake Windermere to take us to Manchester airport.
