At times the area feels more like Mumbai than Dubai. A huge Indian population and the souks are all staffed by Indian traders. If you want a pashmina then this is the place to go.

Lots of old/restored buildings and a vibrant waterfront with the ever present abras ferrying passengers backwards and forwards. A fabulous mix of old buildings, abras and dhows with modern chrome and glass towers.

Well worth a visit. Only two glitches – the art galleries were closed all day Friday and as it was the Prophets Birthday there was no alcohol being served in the hotel.
