Nigel skipped the packed breakfast, opting to get up earlier so that he could sit down to another poached egg on avocado. Everyone else ate during the long, bumpy ride to Kilembe and the start of our three day trek into the Rewenzoris a.k.a Mountains of the Moon.

Day 1 was a sweltering climb through the rain forest. Our knowledgeable guide had to compete with Nigel who somehow converted forest elephants in tree climbing ones and spent the rest of the day describing their habitat and finding evidence of their passing – broken tree branches were apparently a sure sign.

After a six and a half hour relentless uphill slog in the steamy rain forest we passed the pretty Enochs Falls and then on to our hut at Sine Camp (2956m).

It required eight porters and three guides to get the four of us up here. It seemed a little overkill since we were not carrying tents but ours not to reason why. Judging by the size of the portions at dinner, most of the baggage was probably food.
