My guide book described beautiful, pristine beaches on the Ras Ghumais peninsula. Four hours drive and almost on the Saudi Arabian border but we thought it would be worth a look. The reality wasn’t quite as described. We eventually found a nice secluded spot next to the beach but much of the coast is spoilt by accumulated, sea borne litter – mostly plastic bottles.

Notice the camel tracks leading to our table. The tracks were there when we arrived and although there were lots of camels roaming freely in the area none came to visit while we were camping.
