An amazing trip through the old city of Jaipur – the Pink City.

Once inside the city walls we stopped at the Hawa Mahal or “palace of winds” a building with a specular facade but no depth and no obvious purpose, possibly just a folly.

Then on to Jantar Mantar- another World Heritage Site featuring huge astronomical instruments of incredible accuracy for the determination of time, season, astrological information, sun zenith and so much more – and all built before Europeans had ever heard of a watch or clock.

The City Palace then provided a fascinating look at the lives and history of Jaipur’s rulers as well as some impressive architecture.

A quick look at Jal Mahal or lake palace, which is being converted into a swanky hotel and restaurant, rounds off the day nicely and we head to the pool to cool off!
